Sam Fender has given the full amount of his £25,000 honor prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to protect the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

The star was awarded the award on mid-October as his new release the album was named the top album of the last 12 months.

The musician has opted to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"I couldn't be pursuing my current career if it wasn't for all the gigs I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said Sam Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, top acts such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to support the industry, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which supports independent venues.

He also participated, generating over £100k on his recent tour to assist numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation helped locations that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties stemming from flooding, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces obtained financial assistance in upgrading amenities and gear that directly benefitted artists and fans.

"The notion that revenue from shows in large arenas supports the independent spots, where it begins for artists like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.

Fender is far from the only musician to donate his honor funds to good deeds.

Back when the band received the prize in 1996 for their album the album, frontman the singer declared that the band would contribute their prize money to the non-profit the charity.

During 2002, rapper and singer the artist shared her award across a few good causes, including the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I contributed a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they required updated gear," the artist told the media.

Previously, they gave their prize money to the local youth club that developed their act, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

And the 1994 recipients they donated their award to a MS organization after a friend was diagnosed the illness.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated vocalist Small. "The money was the extra but we didn't need the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning touched another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved two local spots in the South East, by bringing them into community ownership.

The first in Southampton and The Croft in the city were acquired under the public acquisition scheme, which is supported by a national body and music fans who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
