Manchester City's manager Voices Remorse Over Broadcast Crew Altercation Following Loss to Newcastle

The City boss confessed experiencing "embarrassment" following a confrontation with a camera operator in the wake of Manchester City's loss away to the Magpies on Saturday.

At full time, a visibly upset Guardiola stepped onto the field and had heated discussions with match official Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, while also handling the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I apologised," Guardiola stated. "I'm humiliated, regretful, when I see it. It's not acceptable. I apologised after one second to the cameraman. That's just me. With a thousand matches under my belt I'm far from perfect, I make huge mistakes."

"What is for sure, I stand by my team and club, without a doubt. The reason why I want to defend my team is clear – because from my experience to win the Premier League we have to do 100 points, 98 points, otherwise we don’t win it."

City's Position and Manager's Take

City are third and trail leaders Arsenal by seven points after what was their fourth league defeat this campaign. "Four defeats in twelve matches we have to improve a lot," he conceded. "Technically, we can still achieve all."

The manager was asked if this meant the quadruple could be achieved, he responded: "As a seasoned reporter, did you hear my talk about the quadruple in December during our historic run? Never."

Interaction with Guimarães

Regarding his confrontation with Guimarães, Guardiola said: "I've known him a long time and post-match, home or away, we talk in the tunnel. We often meet and I always have a good relationship. I enjoy it. I’m an emotional guy, I like discussing and gesticulate."

He wouldn't mind should a rival coach spoke to his players right after the final whistle. "No - as long as you talk with respect like I always have done, it's fine," he said, before referencing Barrott. "The referee was involved for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, he was involved. My God, very much so."

Controversial Decisions

City were unhappy that Barrott or the VAR did not award City a penalty for a Fabian Schär challenge on Phil Foden, and doubted Bruno's positioning when Harvey Barnes scored the decisive strike. Pictures published later indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Upcoming Milestone

Guardiola will take charge of his 100th Champions League game versus Leverkusen on Tuesday. "It’s quite good, showing we compete annually," he said.

The club has ten points from four matches of the league phase, while Leverkusen have five.
