Close to 25,000 Lost Power in Queensland and Victoria Following Intense Storms

Around 25,000 households in south-east Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday's dawn after intense storm systems passed over the area, bringing wind gusts topping 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Hailstones and Extensive Destruction

Homeowners witnessed large ice chunks as large as 7cm in particular locations. Weather authorities announced that different parts across Queensland had been affected by large hailstones.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing power throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews activated to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

Meanwhile, around one thousand residents in the southern state also faced energy failures after the capital city experienced its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.

Rescue organizations received 598 emergency reports across the region, mainly for structural issues but also for fallen timber and flooding.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - numerous rescue reports
• Wyndham area - over 175 calls for assistance

During the peak on yesterday, in excess of 28,000 electricity consumers in Victoria were without power.

Climate Outlook

Moist weather were predicted to continue along much of Queensland's east this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

The following day was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent storm activity expected across multiple regions of both areas.

Safety Concern

Health officials warned that there was an greater possibility of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.
