Area Police
Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the incident left him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
