American Armed Forces Executes Deadly Strike in Pacific, Leading to 4 Fatalities

According to a senior defense official, the US armed forces executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, killing four individuals.

“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established narco-trafficking route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”

Context and Prior Actions

This announcement follows a day after an announcement regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on social media, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, vowing to increase the military presence.

Only on the previous day, the Pentagon stated it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Justifies Actions Amid Pressure

The government has encountered increasing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have refused to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a successful operation, arguing it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the limits of lawful warfare.

While the administration has said the campaign is about stopping drugs destined for the US, remarks from a senior aide seemed to suggest a wider political objective. In a recent interview, the senior advisor said the president “wants to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This suggests the military campaign may be linked to a push to oust Venezuela's current government.
